The project
Atrium roof refurbishment without a crane
Working directly for the main contractor, Invictus Access refurbished a large glazed atrium roof on the Isle of Wight.
The scope covered removal of the existing brise soleil, removal and replacement of more than 100 roof glass units, new flashings and facade elements, and a full water test on completion. Bringing a crane across to the island would have added significant cost and logistics, so the works were planned around rope access, winches and hauling systems instead.
A two-person IRATA team completed the package in around six weeks. The finished roof was water tested section by section before handover, giving the client confidence that the new glazing and flashings were watertight.

More than 100 glass units were removed and replaced, moved on and off the roof with winches and hauling systems.
New flashings
New flashings and facade elements were fitted around the glazing to weatherproof the roof.
Water test
