Invictus Access was appointed by a tier one main contractor to install 148 high-level glass units on a new riverside tower on Lots Road, London SW10.

Many of the units were curved, and all were set more than 20 storeys above the Thames. The programme was tightly constrained by planning conditions and the site’s tower crane schedule, so the glazing package had to run to time with no slack.

An eight-person IRATA team handled each unit with vacuum lifters. Technicians on ropes guided the glass into each opening from outside, while colleagues on the floor plate received and secured it from inside. All 148 units were installed within the 12-week programme, ahead of schedule and with zero incidents.

How we delivered it

Plan, lift, guide, secure

01 PLAN

Sequence the package

Units were sequenced around the planning conditions and the tower crane schedule to protect the programme.

02 LIFT

Vacuum lifters

Each unit, including the curved glass, was handled on powered vacuum lifters rated for its size and weight.

03 GUIDE

From the ropes

IRATA technicians on ropes controlled and guided every unit into its opening from outside the building.

04 SECURE

From the floor plate

The team inside received each unit, set it and secured it, so nothing was left unsupported at height.

Retained for the builders’ clean

Once the glazing package was complete, the main contractor retained Invictus Access for the post-construction builders’ clean ahead of handover.

Our rope access cleaning team worked down every elevation of the tower, removing construction residue from the new glazing and frames, so the building was handed over clean.
