Case study · Roof glazing · Glass dome
A rooftop glass dome. Resealed, restored and tested.
A glazed roof dome refurbished by our IRATA team, working on ropes from the roof. Every joint resealed, the glass polished, the caps cleaned and the whole dome water tested before handover.
The project
Dome refurbishment without a scaffold
A rooftop glass dome needed its joints renewed and its glazing brought back to standard. Rather than scaffold around and over the dome, our IRATA team rigged from the roof and worked across it on ropes.
The old joint seals were stripped off and butyl tape applied to the joints. The glass was then polished and the glazing caps chemically cleaned to restore their finish.
With the work complete, the dome was water tested to prove every joint was sealed before handover.

How we delivered it
Strip, seal, restore, prove
Remove the old seals
The failed joint seals were stripped off the dome back to clean, sound surfaces.
Butyl tape to the joints
New butyl tape was applied along the joints to weatherproof the dome.
Polish and clean
The glass was polished and the caps chemically cleaned to bring the dome back to a good finish.
Water test
The finished dome was water tested to confirm it was watertight.
